Energy-Efficient, Sustainable Building

                      What does that really mean?

For me, one of my first thoughts concerning energy-efficiency is insulation. It is key to a tight building envelope that will help keep our home cool in the summer and warm and dry in the winter. New England winters will certainly challenge energy efficiencies, and we have come a long way in building science and high-performance building products in recent years.

Building professionals and homeowners alike are being bombarded with many "green" products, challenging old ways of thinking. Knowledge and some research of these new high-performance products will help guide decisions that are right for you or your next project.

Take a look at Mark LaLiberte's article below for some very good information on building science and on insulation, specifically. It was a help to me during my research and renovation.

To learn more about weatherization, insulation, and building quality, take a course at the Building New Hampshire Trade Show & Conference. Check it out at www.buildingnh.com

It would be hard to find a more critical decision than your choice of insulation. In addition to R-value, you need to look at these materials' relationship with the rest of the building envelope. Although the fundamentals of building science are unchanging, new products and evolving best practices allow insulation to play an increasingly important role in whole-house system design. The success of Building New Hampshire Trade Show & Conference depends on staffing and volunteers. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to work before, during, and after the show to help with exhibit installation, information booth staffing, monitoring workshops, exhibit breakdown, and other important show-floor functions. Volunteers earn free workshops, advertising credits for Granite State Builder Market Place, or Resource Guide listings in the Building New Hampshire Show Guide, if applicable. Help us make a difference and volunteer at the show.

For more information on booths, the show guide, or volunteering, contact Kathy at  kpoggi@seacoastink.com or tel: 603-772-5899
